Shaker Style Mantel Clocks

Walnut, Spalted Maple

I made these as Christmas gifts many years ago. I think they were probably my first real quality woodworking project. I still marvel at how good they came out for how little practical experience I had.

These clocks are made out of black walnut with spalted maple panels in the front. They were pretty easy to build. Simple tongue and dado joinery for the cases, groove and stub tenon. These used a spray laquer out of a spray can. I really like the finish but since I don't have a spray booth it really isn't very practical for me to use.

In no particular order, these went to my grandparents (x2), my parents and my in-laws each got one and my sister got the last one. My grandparents have since died and I got one of the clocks back (Whitson). The other clock is with my parents (so they have two now).
